Mrs. Beulah Juanita Meares, 73, was surrounded by her family as she stepped peacefully into heaven on the evening of Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 at her son’s home in Pawley’s Island, S.C.
She was born in Fairmont on Aug. 4, 1944 to the late Jessie Craig and Beulah Ivey Hayes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Meares.
Mrs. Meares was a long-time member of the Hinson’s Crossroads Baptist Church.
She was a retired supervisor of the Columbus County Department of Social Services in Whiteville.
The family received friends Wednesday at Meares Funeral Home in Fair Bluff. A funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12 at Hinson’s Crossroads Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Stanley officiating. Interment will be in Meares Cemetery.
She is survived by one son, Dr. R. Jason Meares and his wife, Beth, of Pawleys Island, S.C.; one daughter, Anita Atkinson and her husband, Anthony, of Conway, S.C.; one brother, Craig Hayes and wife, Cathy, of Lumberton; and four grandchildren, Austin Meares and his wife, Katherine, Bennett Meares, Jonathan (Mo) Meares and Sydnee Atkinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hinson’s Crossroads Baptist Church Annual Fish Fry Fund, 1521 Hinson’s Crossroads Road, Fair Bluff, N.C. 28439.
