Colonel Ray Blackwell, 73, passed on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 at the Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton.
He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Green Blackwell and the son of the late Bertha Leola Powell Blackwell and William Coy Blackwell. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Talmadge Blackwell W.C. Blackwell, Jr. and Carlie Blackwell.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2 at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3 at the funeral home with Rev. Jeff Stocks officiating. Interment will be in the Gowan Cemetery in Cerro Gordo.
He is survived by one daughter, Allison B. Jernigan (Roy Ivey Jr.) of Cerro Gordo; one son, Anthony Blackwell (Tina) of Chadbourn; three grandchildren, Brittany Jernigan, Cody Jernigan and Akin Blackwell; and two great-grandchildren, Carter Martin and Kenzie Martin.
