Daniel Franklin “Pop” Thompson, 82, husband of Barbara Turnage Hall Thompson, passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 2017 at Trident Hospital.
Mr. Thompson was born in Whiteville, a son of the late Sadie Pope Thompson and Daniel Thompson. Mr. Thompson was predeceased by one daughter, Pearl Mcghee; one son Paul Cartrette; and one brother, Joe Thompson.
He was a retired truck driver, a Baptist, and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21 at Avinger Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22 at the funeral home with Bob Kronyak officiating. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24 at the Florence National Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Barbara Turnage Hall Thompson, of the home; daughters, Earlene “Sue” (Jim) Toth of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Meryl Stamp (Marvin) Staller of Holly Hill; one sister, Annette Davis of Whiteville; and a number of grandchildren.
