David Lenu Wise, 61, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Duke University Hospital surrounded by his wife and his children. He is forever healed today and now walking the beautiful streets of gold with Jesus.
David was born March 28, 1961, to the late Tylon Franklin Wise Sr. and Bonnie Burney Wise in Columbus County. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Tylon Franklin Wise Jr.
David retired as a shift supervisor from International Paper. On Sept. 16, 2018, he was given the precious gift of two new lungs and a heart. We will be eternally grateful to the donor and their family for this gift that gave us a few more years with David. Unfortunately, he had to fight for his life from the start of the transplant and he fought to the very end, July 23, 2022. He was the strongest man we’ve ever known, but his body just couldn’t take anymore.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Bridge of Life Community Church, 2220 Mercantile Dr. in Leland. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at the church with Rev. Jerome Bullard officiating. Burial will be in the Virginia Bullard/Rogers Cemetery in Delco. McKenzie Mortuary, 112 Jefferson St. in Whiteville is serving the Wise family.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 35 years, Sherry DeVane Wise; two daughters, Krystle C. Cochrane of Leland and Kaitlyn M. Mitchell (Andrew) of Clinton; one son, David Tanner Wise of Leland; one sister, Janet Simmons of Delco; his father-in-law, Hybert DeVane of Winnabow; his step father, Irvin Brown of Southport; his uncle, Herbert Swain of Sunset Harbor; six grandchildren, Kylie, Aiden, Tylon, Bryce and Olivia “Livy,”; and a large loving extended family.
Our family wants to thank you for your love and support during the past four years.
