On Monday July 6, 2020, Donald Kelley Hughes, 67, loving husband of Jeanine Hughes of 26 years went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior.
Born Nov. 18, 1952 in New Hanover County, he was the oldest son of the late Lucian Kelley Hughes and son of the late Frances Emily Hughes of Wilmington.
Donald was an avid music lover and prankster who loved to play jokes on his friends. Donald was very close to his cousins Mike Hughes and Albert Hughes who were like brothers to him.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 11, at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:45 p.m. at the funeral home with service in the chapel at 3 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Myrtle Head Cemetery in Ash with Rev. Mac Hudson officiating.
Casket bearers will be David Trent Evans, Darrell Hughes, Nick Caison, Patrick Taylor, Mike Hughes and Albert Hughes.
Donald is survived by two daughters, Heather Renee Hughes Jackson (Christopher Jackson) of Illinois, Melinda Kelley Hughes (Shady Daniels) of Shallotte; one stepdaughter (“Daughter”) Laurie Ann Taylor (Patrick Taylor) of Ash; one granddaughter (“Daughter”) Sara Alexandra Hughes of the home…“He was my Papa.” He is survived by grandchildren, Hayden Jackson, Haley Jackson, Peyton Daniels, Tyler Taylor, Kourtney Taylor; and a great-granddaughter. Donald is also survived by two brothers, Daniel (Danny) Hughes (Bonita Hughes) of Bolivia, Darrell Hughes (Betty Hughes deceased) of Burgaw; two sisters Susan Stewart (Kenny) and Karen Glenn, both of Wilmington.
