Dwight Duval Simmons, 63, died Friday, July 21, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Landsthul, Germany, Nov. 20, 1953 to Philip Simmons Sr. and Lucy Mae Powell. He grew up in Whiteville and graduated from West Columbus High School and attended N.C. A&T State University earning a B.S. Degree in Economics. He attended Queen City Bible College earning a Master’s Degree in Christian Ministry.
He was an associate minister at National Ford Community Church. He currently worked as a recruitment coach with SIM.
A wake will be held from 10:30-11 a.m. Saturday, July 29 at Nations Ford Community Church. Final rites will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29 at the church. Burial will be in York Memorial Park Cemetery, 5150 S. Tryon Street. Alexander Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Laura; one daughter, Shamedria Horne; one sister, Jennifer S. McDowell; two brothers, Philip J. Simmons Jr., Cecil Simmons; and one granddaughter.
