Ethel Mae Evans Simmons, 90, of the Old Dock community went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017.
She was the daughter of the late Thelma Long Evans and Weldon Evans and the widow of Albert Matthew Simmons. She was also preceded in death by a son, LaRay Matthew Simmons; and four siblings, Rev. Elder Evans, Cinda E. Holden, Coolidge Evans and Joe Evans.
She was a member of Palmyra Baptist Church and was employed by Blue Jeans in Whiteville for 13 years and later at PFI in Brunswick County for 17 years until her retirement. For several years before her health declined, she did volunteer work for the Harvest Table in Whiteville.
She was an excellent seamstress and also loved to quilt and crochet. During the years she enjoyed giving her quilts and afghans to friends and relatives. She also loved to cook, especially large family dinners.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Palmyra Baptist Church with Pastor John Roberson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11- a.m. one hour prior to the service Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the church. Interment will be in the Simmons Family Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn is serving the family.
She is survived by two daughters, Frances S. Roberts (Steven preceded) of Raleigh and Katherine S. Faulk (Rev. Wayne Faulk) of Whiteville; three siblings, Dula E. Smith and Linda E. Stocks, both of Nakina, Rifton Evans of Ash; three grandchildren, Heather Slaughter, Daniel Faulk and Kayla May; and three great-grandchildren, Layla Faulk, Landon Faulk and Rayna May.
Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
