Mr. George Walker Jr., 90, of the China Grove community, entered in the joys of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at his home surrounded by family.
Born Jan. 23, 1930, he was the son of the late Annie Ruth Duncan Walker and George Walker Sr. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Magalene Russ Walker; and seven siblings, Franklin “Boss” Walker, Annie Will Bowen, Lillie W. Boswell, David M. Walker, James Earl Walker, Barbara W Bass and Robert H. Walker.
George was a hard worker, farming from an early age and throughout his entire life he enjoyed working alongside his wife and family. He also worked as a front load driver throughout Columbus County for more than 15 years working with chambers, Waste Management and Columbus County Waste Industry Services, receiving several employee of the year awards during his career. George enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing and later in his life he became an avid beekeeper and gardener. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and especially grandpa to all his grandchildren.
George was a lifelong member of China Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, pianist and a founding member of the building committee until his illness in 2009. His children, grandchildren, and friends will remember his quick wit, belly aching laughter and his beautiful voice. Since 2009 when he first became sick his testimony of strength and God’s grace will never be forgotten by anyone he met. His work ethic, love and legacy will be carried on through his children and grandchildren.
