Gloria Gail Oxendine Ammons Mitchell, 70, of the St. James community, went to be with the Lord Monday, Aug. 1, 2016 surrounded by her family at Columbus Regional Healthcare in Whiteville.
She was the daughter of the late Rev. Earl Oxendine and the widow of Jerry Barney Ammons and Joseph Edward Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Dale Oxendine.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Curt Locklear and Dr. Michael Cummings officiating. Interment will be in St. James Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. one hour prior to the service Thursday, Aug. 4 at the church, 3245 Old Northeast Road, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. 28450. Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Tonynia Bell of Pembroke and Joan Jacobs (Stefan) of Bolton; her mother, Martha Cummings Oxendine of Shannon; three siblings, Tim Oxendine (Alice-Gail), Elaine O. Chavis (Jerry) and Arnold Oxendine, all of Shannon; four grandchildren, Steven Lee Bell (Karrie), Sarah D. Bell, Hillary Jacobs and Natalie Jacobs; one great-grandchild, Lennox L. Bell; a special niece, Sue Brewington of Clinton; and many other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Davita Dialysis in Whiteville, Shoreland Healthcare, Columbus Regional Healthcare and family and friends for their love and support shown during her illness.
