Gloria Joye Bowman, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 12. 2017 at McLeod Hospice, Florence, S.C. She was born Feb. 10, 1935 in Dillon County, S.C., the daughter of the late Ben Gary Humphrey and Bertha Mae Lane Humphrey. She was the widow of Ernest M. Bowman.
She served as a missionary in Guatemala, Central America and taught Spanish in Dillon High School and the community college.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Dillon Church of God, 701 US-301 S., Dillon, S.C. Peacock Funeral Home in Whiteville is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Gloria Bowman Williamson of Whiteville, Deborah Bowman Nunez of Dillon, S.C.; one son, Samuel E. (Sam) Bowman of Haines City, Fla.; one brother, Victor Smith of Irmo, S.C.; two sisters, Margie Gray and Margaret Burrows, both of Kingstree, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.
