Gregory “Greg” Eugene Worthington, 64, entered into the arms of his Savior Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, at Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Greg, as he was affectionately known, was born Sept. 9, 1956, in Columbus County. He was preceded in death by his father, Cyrus Eugene Worthington.
Greg was a faithful member of Porter Swamp Baptist Church, where he served in various areas. He worked with the youth choir, served as a deacon, and was also active with the church brotherhood. Greg was a past member of the Kiwanis Club in Whiteville. For 28 years, Greg served as a supervisor/probation officer in Columbus County, until his retirement in 2015. He was also the Teen Court Coordinator for the 13th Judicial District, and recipient of the Old North State Award for his public service.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Porter Swamp Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Moore officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The service will be streamed live on Tim Moore’s Facebook page.
To cherish his memory, Greg leaves his wife, Carolyn Ann Ellis Worthington of the home; two sons, Jared H. Worthington and wife, Katie, of Indian Trail, Benjamin E. Worthington and wife, Anna Grace, of Whiteville; his mother, Annie Reeves Worthington of Whiteville; one sister, Janet W. Pecorella and husband, Salvatore, of Matthews; and two grandchildren, Camden Worthington and Vivian Grace Worthington.
