Hilda Grey Fipps Bullard, 89, began walking the streets of gold Monday, June 20, 2022, while in the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Whiteville.
Hilda was born Sept. 2, 1932, the daughter of the late Robert Sidney Fipps and Beulah Mercer Fipps. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Royce Bullard and her siblings, Mona Faye Fipps Baldwin and Bobbie Fipps Nance.
Hilda held a 40-year career in the banking industry. She served as branch manager at Peoples Savings, vice-president at Pioneer Savings, First Citizens as an assistant first vice-president and after retiring she worked part-time with Waccamaw Bank in Chadbourn. Hilda was a vital part of the town of Chadbourn; she served as recording secretary for the Garden Club, Chadbourn Revitalization (Depot Museum) as treasurer. Mrs. Bullard also received the “Above and Beyond” award from the Columbus County ECA, where she served as treasurer. In 2019, Hilda was recognized for her 25 plus years of service as the recording secretary for the N.C. Strawberry Festival in Chadbourn.
Hilda was also the longest continuous member of Chadbourn Baptist Church.
Her funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Chadbourn Baptist Church with Dr. David Vess officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:45 p.m. prior to the service Friday at the church. Interment will be in the Columbus Memorial Park.
Survivors include her daughters, Vicki Gail Davis (Dale) of Calabash, Julie Bullard Norby (Robert Brent) of Orlando, Fla. and Hilda Joy Bullard of Whiteville; six grandchildren, Max James Ostermair, Kelly Ostermair Thomas (Tim), Emily Ostermair (Marty Finkelmeier), Alexandra “Alex” Norby Courtin (Christopher), Julian Lucas “Luke” Norby, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Victoria Norby Nakashima (Justyn); four great-grandchildren, Penelope Faye Thomas, Marlowe Grey Thomas, Lukas Finkelmeier and Alden Lane Courtin.
