OLIVIA — Iris Mae Hayes McGee died Wednesday, July 13 surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 29, 1933, in Columbus County, to the late Gladys and Herman Hayes. She was the third of five children. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willie Dexton McGee of Olivia; and two brothers, Bud Hayes of Old Dock and James Hayes of Castle Hayne.
She grew up on a farm in Old Dock. She and her husband, Dexton, moved to Olivia, in 1963 where she lived for 53 years. She attended San Lee Chapel in Sanford and was the secretary and treasurer.
Visitation was held Saturday, July 16 at San Lee Chapel, 3215 Keller-Andrews Road in Sanford. Final rites were held following the visitation. Burial was in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Inc., 600 West Main Street, Sanford handled the arrangements.
She is survived her children, Lloyd and Floyd McGee (twins), Alice Smith and Tina Eckenrode; one sister, Bea Redwine of Wilmington; one brother, Herman Hayes of Old Dock; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
