James Elton Long


James Elton Long, 78, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 at his residence. He was born Friday, Sept. 15, 1939, the son of the late Henry Long and Alma (Lee) Clewis Long. He was preceded in death by one sister, Eula Walters; and two brothers, Henry Lee Long and Lewis Long.
He worked with Memorys Supermarket for more than 25 years and was owner and operator of D&D Quick Mart store at Williams Township for 25 years.
A graveside wervice will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct, 12 at the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Ray Best officiating. McKenzie Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Suggs Long of the home; two sons, Dana Elton Long of Portland, Maine and Derek James Long (daughter-in-law) Lisa of Tabor City, N.C. sister; Sue Long McPherson of Chadbourn; one brother, Ray Long of Whiteville; four grandchildren; Derek James Long, Eric J. Long, Dustin Long and Peyton Long; and two great-grandchildren, Rhett Long and Kathryn Long.
