James ‘Jimmy’ Fredrick Benson

James “Jimmy” Fredrick Benson, 77, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022, (not COVID-19 or vaccine related) at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel James and Dora Dale Benson; and a sister, Bonnie Benson Kirby.
Jimmy was known by all to be a hard-working, kind-hearted man. He loved to tell stories, discuss politics and crack jokes, but most of all he loved to talk about the Bible. He owned and operated Benson Machine Shop for over 50 years and considered his work to be his calling. He tried to be a friend to everyone he met.
Jimmy will be greatly missed by many.
Visitation will be held from 2-2:45 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at McKenzie Mortuary, 112 Jefferson St. in Whiteville. His memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.
He is survived by his wife, Diane (Pritchard) Benson; one daughter, Roxanna Dobson (David); four grandchildren, Tesla Dobson, Luke Robbins (Chelsea), Joshua Robbins, Seth Robbins (Jessica); and one great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Robbins. He is also survived by his sisters, Doris Baxendell and Lucy Simpson (Calvin); and nephews, James Simpson, Daniel Kirby and Darrel Kirby.
