James Otis Batten Sr., 78, passed away Friday, Oct. 27, 2017. He was born Feb. 20, 1939, in Whiteville, to Oscar and Ola Mae Creech Batten. He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his daughter, Teresa Kay Batten and one son, Rae Fields Batten.
Final rites will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 11 at First Congregational Church of Winter Park, 225 S. Interlachen Ave., Winter Park, Fla., 32789. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Shipman Batten; one son, James Otis Batten Jr., of Maitland Fla.; one brother Charles Daniel Batten of Sandersville, Ga.; two sisters, Gloria Batten Dowless and Phyllis Batten Williams, both of Clarkton; two grandchildren, William G. Randall Jr. and fiance’, Julie DeNicola of Winter Park, Fla. and Shannon Riley Batten of Maitland, Fla.; as well as two nephews; and three nieces.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, building fund.
