Jesse Julius Spivey Sr., 90, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in Whiteville. He was the son of the late Alma Bass Spivey and Leo Spivey and the husband of the late Elsie Rae Barnes Spivey. He was also preceded in death by one son, Larry Martin Long; and two siblings, Hilda Merle Lanier and Eula Mae Spivey Moore.
He was a veteran of WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War serving his country honorably in the U.S. Navy for 23 years and was later employed by Pony Express formore than 10 years
Final rites were held Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017 at Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Chip Hannah officiating. Interment was in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include five children, Karen Long Jernigan of Hallsboro, Robin Wand of Charlotte, Jesse J. Spivey Jr. and Denise Miller, both of Summerville, S.C. and Tara Wilkins of Shreveport, La.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
