Mr Jimmy Wade Stanley Sr., 77, died Saturday, June 16, 2018. He was born Feb. 18, 1941, in Columbus County, the son of the late Arbie Stanley and Lishie Reaves Stanley. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jimmy Wade Stanley Jr.; his parents; a brother, J.L. Stanley; and a sister, Lillie Mae Rogers.
Jimmy was the Fire Control Supervisor with Riegel Paper, Federal Paper and International Paper Company until his retirement after 42 years. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Lake Waccamaw. He was a founding member of the Lake Waccamaw Fire and Rescue. Mr. Stanley served on the Planning board of the Town of Lake Waccamaw from 2001-2011. He was a Lake Waccamaw City Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem.
His funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 in the Peacock Funeral Home Chapel in Whiteville with Rev. Will Harris officiating.Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 18 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Gore, Kevin Butler, Glen Ray, John Beam, Andrew Council,Michael Prostinak and Robert Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lake Waccamaw Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Ward Stanley; and two nephews, Ray Rogers of Wrightsville Beach and Stan Rogers of Rocky Point.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Lake Waccamaw, P.O. Box 202, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. 28450 and the Lake Waccamaw Fire Dept., P.O. Box 145, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. 28450.
