John Albert McNeill Sr.

John Albert McNeill Sr.,  98,  died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016 at Columbus Regional Healthcare.
He was the son of the late George Raymond McNeill and Lydia Jane Russell McNeill and was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Powell McNeill; and brother, Neil Hector McNeill.
He was the owner of North Carolina’s  Oldest Pharmacy” McNeill Pharmacy.” He was  very civic minded  and  devoted to his family.
He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII as a Lieutenant Commander. He was a lifetime member of Whiteville United Methodist Church.
Final rites were held Saturday, Sept. 24 at Whiteville United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Stallsworth officiating. Visitation was held p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 at the home of Sandy and Deborah McNeill at 304 E. Oliver Street, Whiteville. Burial was in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary McNeill Hooks (Joe) of Whiteville and Jane McNeill Batte (Yoel) of Wilmington; four sons, John A. “Sandy” McNeill Jr. of Whiteville,  Ronald Benjamin McNeill (Cindy) and James C. McNeill (Kimberly), both  of Wilmington, George Raymond McNeill of Raleigh;  a very special friend, Mayo Prim of Yadkinville/Lake Waccamaw; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America (Cape Fear Council) for BSA Cub Scout Camp, 110 Longstreet Drive,  Wilmington, N.C. 28412;  Lake Waccamaw Depot Museum, 203 Flemmington Drive, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. 28450;   Rube McCray Memorial Museum, 301 Flemmington Drive, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. 28450 or Whiteville United Methodist Church, 902 Pinckney Street, Whiteville, N.C. 28472.
