Marguerite Floyd Shaw Lennon, 94, went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 9, 2016 at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Eldra Moore and Gusta Blake Floyd. She was the widow of Walter C. Shaw and Hartford Lennon and also preceded in death by one daughter, Beth Shaw Johnson; and three siblings, Druid Floyd, E.M. Floyd and Lawrence Floyd.
She served as postmaster at Evergreen Post Office with 28 years of service prior to her retirement in 1986.
On April 25, 2012 she was recognized for more than 65 years of volunteer service, by Governor Beverly Perdue and also received the Governor’s Medallion award, which is presented to the top 20 volunteers in the state. She was a member of the Columbus County Extension Club Association as well as many other civic organizations.
Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 12 at Evergreen Baptist Church with Revs. Scott Gore and Ricky Donaldson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10–10:45 a.m. (prior to the service) Tuesday, July 12 at the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn is handling the arrangements.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Vickie S. Williamson (Wayne) of the home; one son-in-law, Jerry L. Johnson Sr. of Evergreen; four siblings, Eugene Floyd of Kelly, Kathleen F. Edwards of Bladenboro, Betty F. Hinson of Fairmont and Christabell F. Britt of Evergreen; four grandchildren, Meribeth J. Nye, Jerry L. Johnson Jr., Shawna W. Williams and Walt Williamson; and seven great-grandchildren, Trey, Chase, Colt, Ozzly, Seth, Channing and Jean-Aubrey.
