Mary Ellen Russell

Lake Waccamaw

Mary Ellen Russell, 95, went to be with her Lord Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in Whiteville. She was born Jan. 1, 1922  in Wananish. She was the daughter of the late Henry Joseph Martin and Molly Strickland Martin. She was the widow of the late Lonnie James Russell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband;  two sons, Richard Russell and Dolan Russell;  five brothers, Elwood, Johnny, Woodrow, Corbett and Waldo Martin; and one sister, Ila Belle Boyles.

Mrs. Russell was a member of Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church for 84 years. She was formerly employed with Council Tool Company at Lake Waccamaw.

The family will receive friends from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21 at Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church. Her funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21 at Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lake Waccamaw Hillcrest Cemetery. Peacock Funeral Home of Whiteville is handling the arrangements.

She is survived by her son, Harold Russell and wife, Judy, of Wilmington; six grandchildren, David Russell and wife, Camila, of Leland, Jay Russell and wife, Dawn, of Fuquay Varina, LaGrande Russell and wife, Melisha, of Lake Waccamaw, Karen Hall and husband, Jack, of Ocean Isle, D.J. Russell and wife, Ella, of Newberry, S.C., Tara Lynn Salesses and husband, Bob, of Alexandria, Va.; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Annie Lee Russell of Hallsboro.

Memorials may be made to Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church, 506 Lakeshore Drive, Lake Waccamaw, N.C. 28450 and Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Lifecare Center, 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, N.C. 28472.
