Mary Jordan Peterson

Delco img-title

Mary Jordan Peterson, 93, joined her husband, the late Cary Peterson, in her new heavenly home Monday, Nov. 23, 2020, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. She was born Nov. 11, 1927, in Elkin, the daughter of the late Morris and Vella Jordan.

Like others from her generation she was a strong willed, resourceful, persevering church lady.  A prayer warrior she was a long-standing member of Delco Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church and was enduring with her charitable giving even on a fixed income.

She loved to quilt, garden, cook for her family and enjoyed playing, watching and storytelling most of all with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.  It was said she could make cardboard taste good with her country cooking skills.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at the Peterson Family Cemetery on Water Tank Road, with Revs. Dewey Ball and Jerome Bullard, nephew of the deceased, officiating. There will be a private viewing for the family at the Delco PFWB Church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family has chosen to keep the viewing private, however friends and family are welcome at the graveside service. Andrews Mortuary of Wilmington is serving the family.

The pallbearers include Larry Dale, Pete Peterson, Sammy Avant, Chris Avant, Cody Peterson, Reed Peterson and Trey Peterson.
