Nellie Strickland Spivey, 67, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017 in Columbus Regional Healthcare in Whiteville. Born Aug. 27, 1950 in Columbus County, she was the daughter of the late Homsey Everette Strickland and Neppie Burnice Coleman Strickland and the widow of Ted Larue Spivey Sr.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Pete Strickland, Phillip Strickland; and one sister, Shirley Strickland.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 in the Cherry Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Cerro Gordo. Inman Ward Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by one daughter, Shanna Thompson (Kevin) of Cerro Gordo; one son, Teddy Spivey Jr. (Angie) of Chadbourn; two sisters, Betty Jean Buffkin of Atkinson, Rhonda Sue Strickland of Whiteville; six grandchildren, CPL Kevin Ethan Thompson (Rose) of Ft. Bragg, Allie Thompson, Troy Thompson, Baileyanna Spivey, Erica Locklear, Garison Johnson; one great-grandchild, Noah Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.
