Ray Williamson, 92, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center. He was the son of the late Curley and Sally Nance Williamson and the husband of the late Ocie Blackmon Williamson and Barbara White Williamson. He was also preceded in death by four siblings, James Williamson, Ruby W. Williamson, Mortie W. Hardin and Uthenal “Cricket” Strickland.
During WWII he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater receiving seven Bronze Service Stars. He also served as a police officer at the Whiteville Police Department and later at Georgia Pacific as a security officer.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Darrin Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25 prior to the service at the funeral home in Chadbourn. Interment will be in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by one daughter, Judy W. Strickland of Cerro Gordo; three sons, Darryl Williamson of Granbury, Texas, Ricky Williamson and Mike Williamson, both of Fort Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
