Schley Warren Waddell, 88, went to be with the Lord Monday, Aug. 1, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in Whiteville. He was the son of the late Dewey S. and Ira Small Waddell and the husband of the late Elsie Strickland Waddell.
He was the son of the late, Dewey Schley and Ira Orena Small Waddell and the husband of the late, Elsie Strickland Waddell.
He was a graduate of N.C. State University, class of 1949 with a major in agriculture. He was a lifetime farmer in the Fair Bluff area.
Schley served in the N.C. National Guard for 16 years; served on the Fair Bluff local school board for many years; was a member of the ASCS board for more than 10 years; and a lifetime member of Fair Bluff Baptist Church where he held the office of church treasurer.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug.3 at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4 at Fair Bluff Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Padgett and Dr. Ray Lundy officiating. Interment will be in Powell Cemetery in Fair Bluff.
He is survived by three sons, Kenneth N. Waddell (Susan) of Chadbourn, Kevin Warren Waddell of the home and Craig Waddell (Brenda) of Wilmington; one daughter, Lou Ann Waddell (Bill McCalla) of Cary; one sister, Lou W. Hooks of Whiteville; four grandchildren, Brittany, Taylor, Weston and Austin; and one great-granddaughter, Alaina.
