Shelton ‘Shelt’ Godwin

Shelton “Shelt” Godwin, 92, died Monday, June 11, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in Whiteville. He was the son of the late Lorena Fowler Godwin and Albert Godwin and the husband of the late Geneva “Jill” Smith Godwin. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jeannine Godwin Wright; and 12 siblings, Lonzie Godwin, Walter Godwin, Roy Godwin, Perry Godwin, Guidie McPherson, Nellie Garrell, Lottie Cartrette, Katie McPherson, Maybelle Sellers, Zellie Boswell, Jake Godwin and Ivey McPherson.
He honorably served his county during WWII in the U.S. Army.


The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 12 at Worthington Funeral Home. Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 13 at Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Buddy Seay officiating. Interment will be in the Mercer Cemetery.
He is survived by three sons, Ronald G. Godwin, Danny Godwin and Delane “Sam” Godwin, all of Chadbourn; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
