Wallace James “W.J. “ Phillips, 89, died Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Columbus Regional Healthcare in Whiteville. He was the son of the late Giles Warren Phillips and Flossie Durant. He was preceded in death by four sisters; and four brothers.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He was a painter and wall paper contractor and later became co-owner of J & Mac’s Grill.
He was a member of Missionary Alliance Church.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 2 at Powell Cemetery in Fair Bluff with Revs. Bobby E. Phillips and Justin DuBose officiating. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 1 at McKenzie Mortuary.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Formyduval Phillips of Whiteville; three daughters, Belinda (Lin) Moore, Priscilla A. Phillips and Mary P. Bullard, all of Whiteville; one brother, Bobby E. Phillips of Whiteville; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
