Wendy Renee Blackwell, 47, of Brunswick County, went to be with the Lord Monday, Sept. 5, 2016 at her home. She was the loving mother of Marcus. She was the beloved daughter of Maxine and Robert Blackwell. She was preceded in death by grandparents Alta Baldwin (Byron Tedder) and Joseph and Lannie Blackwell.
Wendy was born in Whiteville, at Columbus County Hospital Feb. 28, 1969. She became a Christian and was baptized in 1975 and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She graduated from Whiteville High School in 1987. She graduated from Bladen Community College and worked at several jobs including International Paper. Most recently, Wendy was disabled due to several chronic health conditions.
Wendy was a loving, compassionate, and giving person, who never met a stranger. She was humble, tender-hearted, and had a heart of gold. Wendy always had a smile on her face and was known for helping others in need. She enjoyed Ocean Isle Beach, watching movies, and was an avid reader. She will be greatly missed by everyone who loved her.
Final rites will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at New Hope Baptist Church on Rough n Ready Road, Whiteville. Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at the church.
Wendy is survived by her son, Marcus; her partner, Thomas Black; her parents, Maxine and Robert; her sisters, Teresa Blackwell, Robin Hodge (Kerry), April Sherbert (John); nephews, Lance Sherbert, Zackery Sherbert, Jack Myers and William Hodge; nieces, Grace Sherbert and Emmalee Hodge; special friend, Debora Black. She was also loved by her aunts, uncles, and cousins.
