Willard R. Formyduval, 79, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016.
He was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, serving as usher and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a native of Columbus County and was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. His education came through Nakina and High Point College.
He served in the U.S. Army and taught school before going into shortline railroading, from which he retired. He has owned/operated Cape Fear Railcar in Fayetteville for the past 21 years. He spent countless hours with the local youth baseball programs through Sandhills Optimist Club and Pinecrest High School.
Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 8 at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines and other times at the home of Davy Formyduval, 35 Winding Trail, Whispering Pines. A funeral mass will be said at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Southern Pines at noon Saturday, July 9 followed by burial at Bethesda Cemetery in Aberdeen.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shelvia; one sister, Eldiweiss Lockey of Aberdeen; one son and wife, Davy and Leigh Formyduval, of Whispering Pines; one daughter and husband, Kimberly Fairfield and Alan, of New Hampshire, eight grandchildren, Brandon Formyduval (Kelly) of Pinehurst, Jonathan Formyduval of Whispering Pines, Mary Elizabeth, Alan Jr., Mark, Peter and Sarah, all of New Hampshire, Rachel Nappi (Jake) of Alabama; two great-grandsons, Ryley and Cannon, both of Pinehurst; as well as several nieces and nephews.
