William Levirn Pope, age 68, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020. He was born Jan. 24, 1952, to the late Franklin Pope and Nezi Mae Best Pope in Columbus County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathryn Dale Pope; and nephew, Julius (Jay) High.
William served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Navy.
He retired as a truck driver. Mr. Pope was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Winter Haven, Fla. and was a former member of Hallsboro Baptist Church in Hallsboro.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, in Flynn Cemetery with Rev. Ed Vogt officiating. In accordance with CDC guidelines, masks will be required for attendance at the graveside service. McKenzie Mortuary of Whiteville is serving the family.
He is survived by his wife, Fredann Pope of Winter Haven, Fla.; one daughter, Sarah Stickley (Justin) of Winter Haven, Fla.; three sisters, Nancy Tolley (Randy) and Mary Franklin Thomas (Jeffery), both of Hallsboro, Jessie Vogt (Ed) of Lynchburg, Va.; two granddaughters, Kelsey Stickley and Aubree Stickley, both of Winter Haven, Fla.; one grandson, Thomas Sitckley of Winter Haven, Fla.; three neieces and two nephews.
