The Alison Krause song “When You Say Nothing at All”, contains the line, “you say it best when you say nothing at all.” At the annual BB&T Football Jamboree Press Luncheon coaches are constantly talking without saying anything at all about their chances for success in the upcoming season. Less is more! When forced, a few players’ names will be mentioned, but absolutely no specifics about offense or defense or the opportunity for a winning season. In plain language, we ain’t telling you any more than what we have to!
The luncheon is an opportunity to see acquaintances in the coaching and media professions you may not have talked with in a while. It is always good to see Whiteville High grad and former West Brunswick head coach Yogi Hickman. Yogi will continue to be around West Brunswick football since his son Brett is now the head coach. Brett joins Whiteville’s Jarret (JP) Price as a Jamboree head coach who is the son of a former BB&T Jamboree coach. Joey Price will join JP on Whiteville’s sideline this season as an assistant. A couple of former East Columbus head coaches were in attendance today (Tuesday). Rocky Lewis is in his third season as South Brunswick head coach. Toby Kasell is an assistant coach at Ashley.
Here are the “meat” of the remarks from Whiteville coach Jarret Price and South Columbus coach Russell Dove.
