In a 180 degree turn from how it won the previous evening Wolfpack Optimist out scored Boger City, earning a 12-11 victory to advance in the NC DYB AAA State tournament. Wolfpack Optimist had defeated South Park Gray 1-0 the previous evening. Wolfpack Optimist now gets a rematch with Leland. Leland defeated South Park White Wednesday by a score of 5-4 to become the only unbeaten team remaining in the tournament. Leland handed Wolfpack Optimist its only tournament loss, 2-1, last Sunday.

Columbus County’s run in the tournament came to an end with a 9-3 loss to West Robeson American. West Robeson American scored seven runs in the final innings to break open a close game. Columbus County finishes state tournament play with a record of 3-2.

Both the Wolfpack Optimist versus Leland and West Robeson American versus South Park games will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday. The West Robeson American/South Park White loser will be eliminated. If Wolfpack Optimist defeats Leland, it will receive a bye into the championship game Friday. Wolfpack Optimist is the only remaining team that has not received a bye. If Leland is victorious, it would only need to win one of two games against the West Robeson/South Park winner to earn the championship.
