Columbus County’s Junior Stewart cracked a two-run homer over the fence in left-center field to erase a Wolfpack Optimist 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. The County added two more runs in the frame to earn a 5-2 win and the District 2 majors title.

Evan Ward went the distance on the mound for Columbus County, earning his second win over Optimist and third win of the tournament.

Wolfpack Optimist had taken a 2-0 lead after the top of the first. Columbus County scored once in the bottom of the same frame. The score stood still until Stewart’s heroics.

Both teams had already assured themselves of berths in the state tournament in Kenansville that begins July 14.

Wolfpack Optimist took the District 2 Majors supplemental title with a 14-4 win over Columbus County.
