Columbus County, Wolfpack Optimist advance in AAA

Columbus County and Wolfpack Optimist each staved off elimination in the NC DYB AAA tournament in Ash. Columbus County defeated Burgaw 5-1. Wolfpack Optimist out slugged Red Springs 11-6. The pair representing District 2 are two of the eight teams remaining in the 16-team tournament.

Columbus County plays South Stanly today (Tuesday) at 6:30 p.m. South Stanly advanced with a 4-1 win over Dunn. A Columbus County win would have them face West Robeson American at 5:30 Wednesday.

Wolfpack Optimist will take on South Park Gray today at 6:45 p.m. SPG avoided elimination with a 4-1 win over Hope Mills American. A Wolfpack Optimist win would put it up against Boger City at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The two remaining undefeated teams in the tournament are South Park White and Leland. Interestingly, these are the two squads that handed Columbus County and Wolfpack Optimist their second round losses.South Park White and Leland will play Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
