Columbus County, Wolfpack Optimist “staying alive”

Staying Alive, the phrase always brings back memories of “Saturday Night Fever” and the Bee Gees. “Whether you’re a brother or whether you’re a mother
You’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive. Feel the city breakin’ and everybody shaken’ And we’re stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive.

Tournament play is all about surviving and advancing. In the 2018 NC DYB AAA tournament in Ash, NC, District 2 representatives, Columbus County and Wolfpack Optimist, having been doing exactly that, Staying Alive! After each lost in second day action (to the two remaining undefeated teams in the tourney). Columbus and Optimist have avoided elimination not once , but now twice. Columbus County ousted South Stanly 3-1, while Wolfpack Optimist eliminated South Park Gray 1-0.

Both teams are back in action today (Wednesday)for the fifth consecutive day. Wolfpack Optimist face Boger City and Columbus County takes on West Robeson American. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Boger City and West Robeson American did not play Tuesday after receiving their first loss in third round play Monday.

South Park White and Leland play at 7:30 in a battle of unbeaten teams.
