Both Wolfpack Optimist and Columbus County AAA All-Star squads put up a good fight against strong opposition, but came up short in second round action in state tournament play in Ash. Wolfpack Optimist lost to Leland 2-1. Columbus County was defeated by South Park White 5-2. South Park has two teams in the tournament. The White team is composed 10-year olds and the Gray team members are nine.

Columbus County will face Burgaw at 3:30 Monday. Burger lost to West Robeson American 20-5 Saturday, but remained alive with a 14-1 win over Bessemer City Sunday.

Wolfpack Optimist play Red Springs at 5:45 Monday. Red Springs dropped its opener to Boger City 8-3, before defeating the host Waccamaw team 11-1 Sunday.

Boger City, South Park White, West Robeson American and Leland are the four remaining undefeated teams after two days of action in the 16-team tournament. Play continues through Thursday, with the possibility of a winner-take-all championship contest Friday.
