DYB AAA gets some play in despite weather woes

Posted on: 06.27.2018 at 02:23 p.m.

Wolfpack Optimist edged South Columbus 5-4 in an elimination game Tuesday evening. Columbus County and Riegelwood almost completed their second attempt at a winner’s bracket contest, but cam up half an inning short. Columbus County led Riegelwood 7-0 in the bottom of the sixth and final inning before rain made continuation of play impossible.

Columbus County and Riegelwood will finish their contest at 6 pm today (Wednesday). Riegelwood (win or lose) will face Wolfpack Optimist approximately 10 minutes after the completion of Wednesday’s first game. If Riegelwood does not stage a comeback against Columbus County, the Riegelwood versus Optimist contest will be an elimination contest. Riegelwood is slated to face Wolfpack Optimist Wednesday, not matter what the outcome of the 6 p.m. game due to receiving a second round bye.

If Columbus County finishes victorious against Riegelwood, Columbus County would need just one win in tits final two games to claim the District title.

Fans of the Supplemental championship game between Elizabethtown and Columbus County hope the third time is the charm as the game has been rescheduled twice. A Columbus County win would force a winner-take-all game between the two teams Thursday.
