Whiteville’s boys faced South Brunswick in first round play in the Woodmen of the World tourney at West Bladen. The Wolfpack fell behind 16-3 in the first quarter and could never make up the early deficit, losing 65-51. Jace McKenney scored 32 points for the Cougars. TyJuan Anderson led Whiteville with 22 points.
The East Bladen Eagles picked up its first win of the season with a 62-50 win over Whiteville Thursday. East Bladen led throughout the game. Whiteville pulled to within three points, 40-37, with 5:31 left, but the Eagles connected on nine of 12 free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Sincere Smith led East Bladen with 21 points. Adonis Avery added 18. Cameron Richardson led Whiteville with 14 points. Ervin Moore contributed nine points.
Whiteville faced Dillon, SC in Friday’s opener. Dillon held a 28-22 advantage at halftime. The Wildcats stretched the lead to 43-36 after three periods before holding off a Wolfpack comeback attempt in the final quarter to escape with a 60-59 win. Cameron Smith led Whiteville with 15 points.
The Wolfpack are now 5-6 overall. Coach Jerry Singletary’s team returns to TRC action January 2 when it travels to West Columbus.
