Five team tourney makes for odd circumstance

The way the DYB District 2 five-team bracket is set up ALMOST makes tonight’s result of the game between undefeated Columbus County and undefeated Riegelwood moot. Due to Riegelwood having received a second round bye, it will play the winner of the Wolfpack Optimist/South Columbus elimination game Tuesday whatever the outcome of its game with Columbus County turns out to be.

Columbus County advanced to Monday’s winner’s bracket game with an 8-2 win over South Columbus Sunday. Wolfpack Optimist eliminated Bladen County 18-7 in a contest called in the fourth inning due to rain. Optimist and South Columbus play tonight (Monday) at 6 p.m. to determine who will play Riegelwood Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Since Columbus County has not yet received a bye, it advances to play on Wednesday (win or lose Monday against Riegelwood) where it will play the winner of Tuesday’s game between Riegelwood and the Optimist/South Columbus winner.

We will wait to see what happens Monday before trying to unravel the remaining possibilities.  To view the bracket, click on the link below.
