MacKenzie Gore pitched six shutout innings in the Fort Wayne Tin Caps’ 7-0 victory over the Great Lakes Loons July 4. Gore picked up his first professional victory, allowing no runs on four hits, two walks while striking out six.
Gore has a streak of 10 consecutive scoreless innings in which he has allowed six hits and struck out 11 batters. He has an ERA of 1.50 in five starts since returning from the disabled list June 10.
Since returning to Quad City from Buies Creek, Tanner Duncan has been “lights out”. In five games, Duncan has pitched 10 innings with 13 strikeouts and no runs allowed. He has allowed two hits and walked four.
E.J. Jenkins has now played 42 games with the Down East Wood Ducks. Jenkins has an average of .206 with three doubles, four triples and one home run.
Hunter Smith has pitched twice for the Salem Red Sox since returning from the seven-day disabled list. He pitched a scoreless inning July 1 against Down East. July 4, Smith allowed three runs on three hits in one inning against Potomac.
Baltimore Orioles’ Mike Wright Jr. has an ERA of 1.86 over his last 10 appearances dating back to May 27. This covers 19 and one-third innings. He has allowed 20 hits, walked eight and struck out 14. Wright’s most recent outing was two and one-third innings against Seattle in which he gave up just one hit.
Taylor Ward continues to wreak havoc on Pacific Coast League (AAA) pitching for the Salt Lake Bees. Ward has collected 18 hits in his last 39 at-bats for a .462 average. In 28 games with Salt Lake, Ward is batting .367 with 11 doubles, five home runs and 20 RBIs. Ward, drafted as a catcher by the Angels out of Fresno State now plays third base. Ward is the son of Joey Ward, a three-sport player at West Columbus High. Former UNC star Dustin Ackley is the Bees first baseman. Ackley continues to battle his way back to the majors after shoulder surgery
