GSF girls, WC boys take Thursday wins

Two big scoring nights led the Green Sea Floyds girls and West Columbus boys to non-conference victories Thursday evening at West Columbus.

GSF took its third win in nine days over the Vikings in the girls game. This time the Trojans had to overcome a WC 31-28 lead after three quarters to take the 55-49 win. Tamara Johnson scored 35 points to lead GSF. GSF was a South Carolina 1A finalist in 2016-17.

West Columbus’ Jake Brownlee continued to scorch the nets against GSF. Brownlee scored 37 points in Thursday’s 77-55 win after scoring 29 in the Vikings Tuesday triumph. No other Vikings scored in double figures, but nine other West Columbus players scored. Zach McPherson contributed seven points. Dejour Smith added six points and 10 boards. Brownlee also had a dozen rebounds.

West Columbus girls are 1-4 and the boys are 2-0 heading into TRC action Friday versus South Robeson.
