Four Whiteville Post 137 hurlers combined to shut out Jacksonville Post 265 7-0 Friday evening. The Whiteville win set up a showdown with Wilmington Post 10 Sunday evening at Buck Hardee Field for the Area II regular season championship and a first round playoff bye.

Whiteville starter Daniel Carter pitched four innings to pick up the victory. Carter struck out nine, walked one and hit a batter. Jacksonville’s Zack Spireo connected for Jacksonville’s only hit in the first inning. Jacob Allgood, Dylan Lawson and Brooks Baldwin each pitched one inning for Post 137.

Gage Hammonds put Whiteville up 2-0 in the third inning. Hammonds followed A.J. Brooks single with a home run. Dawson Elliott made it 3-0 as he went back-to-back yard with Hammonds. Post 137 added four more scores in the fourth. Singles by Dylan Lawson, Noah Evington coupled with walks to Carter and Baldwin, an error and wild pitch gave Whiteville a 7-0 lead.

Whiteville’s Hammonds added a double and two singles to his home run. A.J. Brooks singled twice.

Post 137 is 13-5 overall and 10-3 entering Sunday’s regular season finale. Post 10 is 11-5 and 10-2. Whiteville defeated Post 10 7-2 last Sunday. A second win would give Whiteville the tiebreaker. A Post 10 win would give Wilmington the outright regular season championship.The regular season champion will receive a first-round playoff bye. The second place finisher will face #7 Jacksonville in a best two of three series. Whiteville and Wilmington Post 10 are locked into the top two spots.
