Local Track and Field performers qualify for state

Whiteville High School along with St. Pauls High School hosted the NCHSAA 2A Mideast Regional Championships at the UNC Pembroke track Saturday. The Wolfpack advanced nine athletes to the state championships next Saturday (May 19) at NC A&T University.

South Columbus’ Makala Wright finished third in the shot put with a heave of 33’08” The third place finish qualifies Wright for the state championship.

The Whiteville Womens team placed fifth overall with 39 points. The Whiteville Mens team took eighth overall with 31 points.
Advancing to the State Championships for Whiteville were:
