Central Middle’s 13, third quarter point total was the only double-digit scoring by either team in its girls game with Hallsboro Monday. Those points overcame a five-point halftime deficit and propelled the Hornets to a 25-19 win over previously undefeated (in league play) Hallsboro Monday.
Trinity Smith led Central’s scoring with 16 points. Tessa Nicholson added four. Aliya Barr scored nine points for the Tigers. Central improves to 3-1, while Hallsboro falls to 5-1. Central’s girls have won twice at Hallsboro, once in the pre-season tournament. Hallsboro’s girls won at Central.
Kayshawn McCollum scored 15 points and Shaheem Shipman added 10 as the Central boys remained undefeated, topping Hallsboro 38-24. Marvion Green scored seven points for Hallsboro.
Tabor City swept Nakina. The Eagles girls won 26-18 behind 14 points from Isabella Coleman. Andrea Herring tallied eight points for Nakina. Treshawn Grate scored nine points, Malik Scott eight and Rashad Dewitt seven for Tabor City in its 34-20 win in the boys contest. Stephan Johnson scored eight points for Nakina.
Tuesday, Chadbourn handed Central’s boys their first loss 47-40. James Smith and Mekhi McClellan each scored 13 points for Chadbourn. Kayshawn McCollum scored 16 points and E. J McLeod added 15 for the Hornets. Central won the girls contest 44-29. Trinity Smith led Central with 11 points. Marissa Ivey contributed eight.
Acme-Delco topped Leland’s boys 63-50. Jaquan Radford scored 22 points and J. J. Faulkner added 18 for the Trojans. Leland won the girls contest 26-11.
Cerro Gordo hosted Nakina as part of its 2018 Homecoming celebration. Nakina defeated Cerro Gordo 30-10 in girl’s action. Cerro Gordo’s boys topped Nakina 37-28. Dante’ Moore led the Stingers with 14 points.
Hallsboro’s girls edged Cedar Grove 22-20. Cedar Grove won the boys game 40-20.
