Middle School basketball is underway

Three Columbus County Middle Schools were involved in pre-holiday non-conference action this week. All nine local middle schools will take part in the Hallsboro Invitational beginning January 8.

Monday, Chadbourn and Hallsboro split a pair of games. Hallsboro’s girls won 26-20. A 15-1 run in the fourth quarter broke open a close game and gave the Chadbourn boys a 42-28 win.

Nakina welcomed Waccamaw Middle School from Brunswick County to the Mustangs gym. Nakina swept the doubleheader. The Nakina girls won 42-11. The Mustang boys took a 40-27 win. The leading scorer for the Nakina boys was Stephon Johnson with 12. Dequan Cox contributed eight and Quimtez Shipman added seven.
