Riegelwood’s World Series run ends

The Riegelwood AA team poses for a photo on the bank of the Mississippi River. Trips like this give some youngsters the opportunity to see a part of our country they otherwise never would.

Riegelwood’s AA team was eliminated by an undefeated Tennessee squad 13-3 Monday night. It was still a great season for the youngsters from the eastern end of Columbus County.

Riegelwood scored twice in the top of the first. Braylon Waddell doubled. Gauge Simmons’ hit scored Waddell and Simmons circled the bases when his hit was misplayed.

Tennessee came right back, scoring four runs on four hits and an error. Riegelwood scored once in the second as Mack Freeman scored on a base hit by Devon Jenrette to close to 4-3. A bases-loaded triple after two were out expanded the Tennessee lead to 7-3 after two innings.

Riegelwood managed just two hits, one by Khari Bowens and the other by Demetrius Dexter over the next two innings. Solid defense by Tennessee did not let another Riegelwood runner reach second base safely.

Tennessee added a single run in the third. The final nail was driven in the bottom of the fourth after the first two hitters has been retired. An error followed by six consecutive hits scored five runs. This gave Tennessee a 13-3 lead and ended the game due to the “ten run rule”.
