Post 137 defeats Port City

Whiteville Post 137 broke up a 5-5 deadlock with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as it defeated visiting Port City of Wilmington on Wednesday  in an Area 2 American Legion baseball game at Legion Stadium.

Dawson Elliott had three hits for the night while Brooks Baldwin picked up the pitching win for the Whiteville squad. The sixth inning  Whiteville rally featured hits by A.J. Brooks, Scott Bowen and Owen McDowell as Post 137 put its season record at 4-3 overall and 2-1 in Area 2 standings.

Coach Jeff Lamb’s Whiteville team was scheduled to take on Pleasure Island Post 129 on Thursday night in an Area 2 match-up at Wilmington, but due to rain the game has been rescheduled for June 28.

Saturday, the Whiteville team will host to Area II rival Morehead City in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Legion Stadium.

On Monday, Whiteville will host Pleasure Island in an Area II game at 7 p.m.
