Pleasure Island topped Whiteville Post 137 3-2 in game one of Thursday’s doubleheader in Wilmington. The game was the resumption of a game suspended by rain in Whiteville Monday.
In game two, Whiteville’s Gage Hammonds home run in the top of the sixth tied the score at eight-all. Brooks Baldwin’s second home run of the game in the eighth gave Post 137 a 9-8 advantage and the win after Pleasure Island did not score in the bottom of the frame.
A.J. Brooks, Whiteville’s fifth pitcher, recorded two strikeouts with the winning run on third base in the bottom of the seventh. Brooks pitched a scoreless eighth to pick up the victory.
Whiteville is now 7-2 in Area II play and 12-5 overall.
