Riegelwood hosts multiple District 9 Dixie Softball tournaments

Central Columbus and East Columbus were winners in Thursday’s opening round of SweeTees play. Central Columbus defeated East Columbus Friday. South Columbus topped Leland in an elimination game. South Columbus faced East Columbus Saturday morning. the winner took on Central Columbus Saturday afternoon. A Central win on Saturday afternoon would secure the title. If Central loses Saturday afternoon, a winner-take-all game would be played on Sunday.

All three Columbus County teams remained alive in the Darlings division, with Central and East Columbus each undefeated entering play Saturday. Central Columbus defeated West Brunswick 16-5 and downed South Brunswick on Friday. East Columbus had a bye in the opening round and defeated South Columbus on Friday. South Columbus defeated Cape Fear 12-9 Thursday, before dropping Friday’s contest against East Columbus. South Columbus met South Brunswick in an elimination game Saturday morning. West Brunswick and Cape Fear also played an elimination game on Saturday. Central and East Columbus were scheduled to face off at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Angels play had Central Columbus defeating South Columbus Thursday and West Brunswick Friday. East Colubus lost to West Brunswick  Thursday and was eliminated, losing to Leland Friday. South Columbus received a bye Friday and faced Leland in an elimination game Saturday. Central Columbus faced Cape Fear in winner’s bracket play Saturday.

South Columbus, West Brunswick and Cape Fear were winners on Thursday in Ponytails play. South defeated Central Columbus. West Brunswick topped East Columbus and Cape Fear defeated Leland. South Columbus defeated West Brunswick Friday to move into a winners bracket game Saturday against Cape Fear. Cape Fear had a bye on Friday. East Columbus ousted Central Columbus Friday and took on Leland in an elimination game Saturday morning.

Last, but not least, Cape Fear is the only undefeated team in Belles play. Cape Fear defeated North Brunswick Thursday and South Columbus Friday. South Columbus had tripped East Columbus Thursday. East Columbus topped North Brunswick Friday to earn a rematch with South Columbus in an a Saturday elimination contest. The east versus South winner would need to defeat Cape Fear twice to claim the championship.

All games take place at the Riegelwood Community Park. Darlings, Angels and Ponytails championships will be decided Sunday. SweeTees and Belles play could conclude Saturday depending on today’s results.
