Riegelwood scored four runs in the top of the first inning and its stellar defensive play didn’t allow a Peach state runner to safely reach second base in a 5-0 “win or go home” contest. Riegelwood will face the winner of the battle of the unbeaten, Mississippi and Tennessee at 8:30 EDT this (Monday) evening. Mississippi handed Riegelwood its first championship round loss Sunday night 8-3 in a contest much closer the final score indicated.
Adrion Jenrette led off the game, reaching on an error. Braylon Waddell singled. Gauge Simmons doubled to plate Jenrette and Waddell. Zay Hines tripled in Simmons and Demetrius Dexter singled to score Hines for a 4-0 Riegelwood lead. Landon Jacobs tripled to start the bottom of the second. Devon Jenrette’s ground out scored Jacobs for a 5-0 lead.
Both teams played as if they were late for a date in the final four innings, managing just four hits between them. Riegelwood’s defense again was almost flawless, allowing just four base runners on three hits and one error.
Braylon Waddell had two hits for Riegelwood. Zay Hines and Landyn Jacobs tripled. Gauge Simmons doubled. Demetrius Dexter, Mack Freeman and George Everette also had base hits for Riegelwood.
